With new homebuilding at an all-time high in Colorado since the waning days of the housing boom, new home communities and builders are entering the market. Today, we’re happy to introduce you to Reed Custom Homes, a family-owned business run by husband-and-wife team Richard and Anna Reed.
From Saving Homes to Building Homes
After serving in the military as a Marine, Richard worked as a paramedic and firefighter with the City of Aurora, as well as serving as a dedicated medic for the Aurora SWAT team. It was Richard’s passion for building coupled with Anna’s experience working on home projects and her natural ability of bringing a vision to life that jumpstarted their work in design and construction.
Their work on investment properties and ensuring the highest quality of workmanship, attracted the attention of friends and families who wished for the same quality of workmanship on their own homes. “We ended up getting attention from others due to the fact that they saw our work and they started almost begging us into doing the client work, that’s been a part of our story,” Anna explains. “We’ve always cared about the details, even on fix and flips or investment homes, and people saw that attention to detail and that’s what launched us into doing not just the investment work, but client work, as well.”
Richard wanted to take his meticulous attention to detail, which led to a successful military and firefighting career, and success in investment properties, to custom building creations for customers. “I don’t know if we know how to do it any other way than with the highest quality,” Richard states. “It has to be something that we can feel that we can feel great about.”
Richard and Anna’s unmatched expectations and drive for exceptionally high-quality work birthed Reed Custom Homes.
The View Haven at Fox Hill
The first custom home completed by Reed Custom Homes is the View Haven. Located in Fox Hill, the farm-to-table community south of Parker, the home is priced at $2,000,000 and was featured in the custom home community’s showcase.
The View Haven is a Colorado modern farmhouse re-imagined. Appointed on 2.008 acres, the View Haven is positioned along a cul-de-sac, backs to dedicated open space, and is arranged to take in the beautiful Colorado mountain views from the wrap-around deck on the front of the house. The 4 bed, 6 bath design includes 5,742 finished square feet and a spacious four-car garage.
“We’ve really tried to maximize the views,” Anna says. “We’ve put a rooftop deck on our house in order to really capture the full mountain view that that lot gives us.”
The covered front porch opens into a spacious sloped-ceiling great room with a double-sided fireplace, inviting sliding doors to a partially covered dual outdoor dining patio space and dedicated study. Just off the great room is the open-concept kitchen with luxury appliances, bright and spacious eat-in space, and connected entertainment spaces. The View Haven is adorned with a welcoming luxurious main floor guest room suite. Opposite the guest room suite is a main floor owner’s retreat that includes an entrance to the wrap-around front deck, expansive front range views, owner’s suite with a spa bathroom, and oversized walk-in closet complete the main floor.
The lower level of the View Haven features a spacious recreational room with a deluxe built-in wet bar, great for entertainment. Two en-suite bedrooms, a flex space for your workout room or optional fifth bedroom, and walk-out access to the covered patio, landscaped yard, and open space – this home has been intentionally and methodically designed.

The View Haven won’t be the last home Reed Custom Homes builds in Fox Hill, they are working on several other custom homes in the community. “It’s kind of a pleasure to come to work everyday,” Richard states. “Just to be able to see the scenery, the great group of builders, and the team that is out here as well.”
“Building out here we get to experience what our homeowners are going to get to experience everyday that they live here,” Anna continues. “With the amazing views, with the community looking at the farmhouse…it just really is a great place to build.”
In addition to the homes being built in Fox HIll, Reed Custom Homes has a total of 10 homes at various stages of the building process.
The Building Process
Anna explains that one thing that sets Reed Custom Homes apart from other builders is that they very much acknowledge they’re not just building a home, a structure, they’re building someone’s home. “Most of our time is spent at home, so your home really is the most common backdrop for your memories,” Anna explains. “So for us, making sure we really understand who we’re building for and what makes them unique helps us make their home unique. This focus really sets us apart from other builders.”
The process that guides the home building process at Reed Custom Homes follows three steps – vision, planning, and execution.
- Vision – From the very beginning, the conversation is all about how the client lives, what they do, what they need out of their home, whether they have kids or are empty-nesters, what hobbies or professions they have that may need something special out of their home. This conversation allows the Reed Custom Homes team to define their customer’s vision for their home.
- Planning – Next, the design team will put these ideas on paper and define the process and plans needed to bring their customer’s unique vision to life. The builder’s architect and structural engineer will create plans for building the home. From elevations and floor plans to choosing cabinets and finishes, Reed Custom Homes is with their clients each step of the way making the plan special and unique to each client.
- Execution – Plans are then handed over to the expert build team comprised of the licensed building professionals and master craftsmen needed to bring their customer’s dreams to life. Communication with the client is consistent throughout the process to keep the customer informed and to ensure a seamless home building process they are completely satisfied with.
Richard says that their objective is to complete this process in less than a year and a half from start to finish. He explains it varies based on the size and complexity of the home, but typically the design and planning phase takes six months and they can complete a build from the day they start construction in seven to nine months, allowing time for changes and walkthroughs.
“I ensure you that every step of your building project, from design to completion, will be enjoyable, hassle-free, and a world-class experience,” Richard states.
